There are times when I get tongue tied talking to God. Recently, there have been things on my heart and mind that I just don’t have the words to say, to express verbally, some things weighing so heavy on me. Now, I know many words; I like words and I like using the appropriate word for each situation where words are used. So, when I read the 8th chapter of Romans, where Paul says that “we don’t know how to pray, but the spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words,” I could relate. And as much as this is a statement of fact, that we can be at a loss for words when speaking to the creator, it is also a promise. God’s promise is that when we don’t have the means to communicate with God, God still communicates with us through the Holy Spirit. These may not be in words that are uttered aloud, but words that are “spoken” and received from our very core. The big “aha” moment I had with this action of the Holy Spirit, is I don’t DO anything. Just surrender to God. When I am able to let go of thinking that I have to come up with some way to express my deepest heart felt thoughts to God, Paul reminds me that God already knows them and is indeed already working in my life to bring about the best possible plan for me. On my heart God has already placed the words and answers (and questions) that I need not only to communicate with God but to follow God’s leading. So, the next time you don’t know what to say to God, just let go, surrender your hearts desires, worries, fears and thanksgivings over to him, he is there, ready to bring you all that you need.
