Our Deepest Fear…..

In a poem that I would describe as deeply profound, Marianne Williamson encompasses a hidden truth. The title of the poem is “Our Deepest Fear” and the opening line is Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” She goes on to say that we were born to make manifest the glory of God that is in each one of us. As I look around our world, I see people seizing power and controlling others with that power. In those circumstances, what is missing is how the glory of God is being made manifest in those with power. Power becomes something to be wielded in order to get what we want rather than to change society for the betterment of humankind. The power that the poet refers to is the light within each person to make this world a better place. Every human being has the ability to let their light shine and in doing so to lift others and bring light to the darkness. We all have the power within us as children of God to enable others to let their light shine, to let go of fear and truly live as creations of the creator, reflecting the divine image in which we were created. Once we realize this, we are powerful beyond measure and can really be the change that we wish to see in the world. Still doubt this? Look around our world and see what individuals, who seemingly had no power or prestige, have done to create a better world for all to live in. What you will see is not wealth or status, but a determined light that will not be extinguished by the world’s idea of powerful. Be the change! You have it within yourself to go make a difference in someone’s life. Don’t let fear or anything else hold you back.
